Thread: Marriage help

I have been trying to find a marriage between John Smith and Elizabeth Harris but i have found nothing ive looked on bmd. The following info i have is :

John Smith b) 1854 yeovil, somerset. -m- Elizabeth Harris b) 1851, Kingstanley, Gloucestershire.



children: Geroge b)1877, kingstanley, glous

William b) 1883, Avening, Glous

Emily J b) 1881, Avening, Glous

Joseph b) 1886, Avening, Glous

Nellie b) 1890 Avening, Glous.



I have found them in 1881, 1891, and 1901, ive been unable to find a birth for John Smith as there is quite a few. ive found lots on Elizabeth Harris and her family back to 1841. Any help i would be greatful for.

Elizabeth Harris, and on the same page ALFRED John Smith.

Right time and area, what do you think? Some people were known by their middle names, particularly if named after their father, it avoided confusion. Also it could be why you've found it difficulf to find John's birth.

Im not to sure, my great grandfather is Joseph Smith b) 1886 and i have his marriage certificate it states on there as John Smith, but it could well be them i know what you mean about them using middle names. I suppose the baest way if i try and find Josephs birth details to find out weather John was John or Alfred John.
