    Default Irish Roots

Morning all. I want to research my ggrandparents but don't know where to access information from as they were born in Ireland. They were John Patrick Lyons who married Mary Flavin.I believe John was from Wexford, not sure if Mary was too. They eventually settled in Glamorgan where my Grandfather, Thomas, was born. Don't know if his siblings were born in Wales or Ireland.Any info would be fantastic as no-one in the family has any knowledge at all. Thank-you, Sharon

    Hi Sharon,

Do you know the approximate dates for your GGrandparents births?

Hi, Lezli. John was born around 1871 but I know nothing about Mary. Sorry I can't be of more help. Sharon

    Hi Sharon,

I am in Northern Ireland so could check the Birth Indexes for you. How sure are you that he was born in Wexford? And is 1871 almost definate?

Hi again. I'm 99.9% positive he was born in Wexford. He died around 1920 in Glamorgan Wales in a mining accident. I assume Mary was born there too and they left Ireland as a married couple. Hope this is of help. Sharon

    Hi Sharon,

Sorry to keep asking you questions but if you give me as much info as you can then I can look in the Public records office and the LDS. Do you have a marriage certificate for them? Do you know who was the 1st child and when they were born? I should be able to at least get you enough information so that you can order a marriage certificate if you can tell me as much as you know.

Irish ancestors are so much more difficult to find than ancestors in other parts of the UK, but not impossible!

Hi Lezli. Yes its proving extremely difficult to get this side of the family tree! I believe their eldest child was Patrick Lyons-he was in his 90s when he died about 2001. There was also a son John, Thomas (my grandad),William, Michael and a girl, Norah. My mother has just informed me that John's wife was also Norah, not Mary(sorry). Flavin still stands as a maiden name though. Thanks for helping, Sharon

    Hi Sharon,

I'll be at the LDS on Wed or Thur this week so I'll have a look at the marriage indexes and see if I can find a match.

I'll let you know whether or not I find anything.

Sharon I found that a lot of my Irish Norah's were really Honoras spelled in various ways. Good luck with your search
