Thread: Tattersall Lookup

Tattersall.

Would anyone be able to look up the Tattersalls in the Burnley-St. Peters Burials 1813-1982. Warning, I understand there are some 210 Tattersall in that CD.

What I would be looking for is ancestors of Mark Tattersall born 1/11/1807 Goldshaw Booth, who would die in Australia. Mark was the son of James born in Goldshaw Booth. Marks mother was Susannah.

I would like to know more the Mark's parents, then work back as far as we are allowed.

Hi Ray - as you say there are a lot of Tattersalls about so you need to be specific in your request, give all the info you have and take it a step at a time!

If you are looking for a burial - name- possible place, approximate date, date of birth.

To go a generation back you are looking for a birth so need maiden name of woman, any ideas as to date and place, any info available from marriage record, census etc

Shall look forward to searching for more of those troublesome Tattersalls!

As you say there are many Tattersalls on the St Peter's burial CD so as Gillian says more info would be helpful.

However, I thought I would post the following who may or may not be your Tattersalls.

There are 3 James who might fit the bill:

James Tattersall burial 23 Feb 1816 age 65 Church Gate Burnley

James Tattersall burial 17 May 1818 age 54 Lanebridge Habergham Eaves Burnley

James Tattersall burial 1 Nov 1819 age 48 Stone Delf Habergham Eaves Burnley

Firstly a big thank you for the input from Gillian and Maggie.

I wrote my thread to see if there was any one willing to take on the challenge that 210 Tattersalls Pendle New church buried presents. [pesky bunch]



The following comes from the Preston UK BDM office. A cousin had a holiday the UK and stopped in for the day.



James Tattersall, Goldshaw Booth no other info.

Married Susannah, Goldshaw Booth no other info.

Peggy 20/1/1805 [no other info]

Mark 1/11/1807, died Aust. married place unknown 1828 Mary Riley b.1807 d.Aust.

Children.

1/ Sarah b.1827 UK[see parents marriage date] no other info.

2/ James b.1828 UK[no place] d. Aust. m.11/1850 Hab/Eaves Isabella Watson b.4/3/1828 d. Aus.

Children

a/ Sarah 1852 Burnley Lan. Married and2 died in Aust.

b/Mark b.12/6/1855 Burnley Lan. Married and died Aust.

3/John b.1831 UK [no other info]

4/ Richard b.1832 UK,died Aust.

5/ Ann b.1834 UK. [no other info]

6/ Robert b.1836 UK, died Aust. Married Mary Ann. UK 1843. no other info.

7/ William b.1839 died Aust. Married 29/1/1866 Ann Russell b.1844 Ireland. death no info.



Mark 1807 and Mary Riley came to Australia aboard the Palmyra sailing 13/2/1859.

Mary died in Australia 8/6/1876. Mark married for a second time. His bride was Lavina Mountstephen [Walls] b c1830 Cornwall. She was a good deal older than himself. She was widowed as well.



So I would like to achieve the steps back through Mark 1807 back into James and beyond.

Hi Ray - I have never managed to get your Mark Tattersall clear as he doesn't appear on the IGI like the others. Could you just say what the source of your information is as to his dob and parents?

Marks parents were James Tattersall [dates na]and Susannah [dates na], both of Goldshaw Booth.

Mark b.1/11/1807 Goldshaw Booth.

m1. 1828 place unknown, to Mary Riley b.1807 Lancs.

m2. 13/9/1877 Waterloo, NSW

d. 5/2/1882 Chippendale, NSW.

Buried Rookwood Cemetery, NSW. [C. of E.]

At least one sibling, Peggy b.20/1/1805. Feel there must be more.



Latest information from LFHHS UK. says about Mark that he married Mary or [Maery] on the 27/11/1826 [yes thats different from the figure above and I have no answer].

Mark, Bachelor, 22, ....., Ravens Clough of this chapelry.

Mary Riley, spinster, Lower Harpers of this chapelry.

Married by Banns, Minister John Rushton.

Wittnesses, James Starkie, Henry Walker.

Mostly from online reading and from material presented to me by a cousin who did a trip to the UK and around the area of Hill End in NSW.

The cousin and I have now taken out a membership with the LFHHS and dribs and drabs are slowly coming through.

But mostly from the cousins work.

Hi Ray - what I am want to establish is Mark's baptism and parentage before going back further. I know about James & Susannah but Mark's baptism isn't there - not on the IGI, not in the parish registers. Peggy's is (with the other children as posted on your other thread). By source I mean something like info from parish register, from marriage certificate etc.

I can see what's on the registers - what I don't know is what you have in Australia - does he have a marriage or death record which states who his parents are?

Since the first child was born in 1786, I would expect the marriage to be about 1785/1786.

The only marriage that I can find for a James TATTERSAL with wife Susannah is the following
