Thread: 1841 Census - Yorkshire - Cappiter

I am trying to find the Cappiter family.

Mary Sales of Burghwallis, Yorks, married William Cappiter, at Burghwallis, in December 1812.

One of the Children, Catherine Cappiter, is shown in the Leeds 1851 Census as Catherine Cappitar, 26, of Bawtry.

In April 1852 Catherine Cappiter married at St Mary Bishophill Junior, York.

Her father, Wiliam, is shown as a Sheherd, on the marriage certificate.



I hope that the 1841 census may show brothers and sisters of Catherine and can then follow the family to the 1851 census.

there is a Catherine Cappetor age 15 (looks like) Back Row, Spittal Hill? Clareborough, Nottinghamshire, Servant, not born in county.

Yes, I am 100% sure that this is the correct family. It is how to move forward with this information. The 1841 and 1851 censuses may help. I found a Mary Cappiter in the 1881 census, living in Bawtry, aged 86, born Burghwallis. It also shows a son, George, aged 38. This does not fit with your information. Burghwallis is only a tiny village, so doubt there would have been many married women called Cappiter. If we can fix down the birth date of Mary (Sales) Cappiter, Burghwallis, it would help.

1841 Census - Nottinghamshire Mary Capitor age 50 female servant in family of Brewertons - Hamlet of Harwell Everton Notts. It says born in county but I still think it is her - if you look at a map you will see all these places are extremely close together
