Thread: Lexden or East Mersea Parish Record??.

Could any one tell me if:



My G.Grandmother Florence Julia Cook born (according to the 1891 & 1901 Census). abt. 1890 East Mersea Essex be registered in Lexden Essex.



I've searched the Birth Index on Ancestry from 1889-1891, and could only find one record of a Florence Julia Cook being registered, but the register states- Lexden July, August, September 1889 vol. 4a page 541



Would have her birth been registered in Lexden if she was born in East Mersea?.

Lexden is the registration district which includes several places - among them East Mersea so I am sure you have the right entry.

I was hoping to see the parents names before I purchased (another) cert for Florence Julia Cook...



I've had another look around some websites but cant find any reference to her parents...fingers crossed I'm now going to order the correct cert to find her parents details.

You have the names Joseph & Rose on the census. This could be their marriage -

4th quarter 1880 Tendring 4a 556 Joseph Cook to Rose Webster

I did see the parents as Joseph & Rose, but as I've made mistakes before I didn't want to go rushing in...I just wanted to double check I had the right Birth details and I've been trying to search the parish records for Florence's baptism/Birth, so I can see her parents.... but I had no luck.



Looks like I'll have to order the Birth Cert of Florence. If that comes back with the parents names Joseph and Rose...I've hit the jack pot and I can then order the parents marriage cert from the information you gave.

Got the Birth cert of Florence Julia Cook....the parents were correct, Rose Webster b.1864 Great Clacton and Joseph Ernest Cook. b1860 Thorrington Essex.



This info has taken me to the next generation and I now have Rose Websters parents, Caroline Pratt and John Southgate Webster...that was a nice little roll!!!!



Shame I cant say the say about Joseph Ernest Cook's parents.

Chris. Thank you so much for taking the time to sort me out. I have taken a look at the 1861 Census....boy, you really do need to think outside the box on that one.



Not only was there a mistake on the surname but poor James aged 8 was transcribed as a servant, when in fact he was one of the sons....and I thought I had bad eyesight. I think the transcriber should have gone to Spec Savers. lol



One piece of good news...the person that did the changes on the Census has left contact details....so I have found a new rellie and will be writing to them some time today.
