Thread: 1851 Census - Yorkshire - Bentley

I am still looking for my Bentley line.



I now know that Thomas Bentley, of Pateley Bridge, born 1826, married Janet Buckley, of Aberdeenshire, born 1829, at St Peter's Church, Leeds, in 1851.

Their first 2 children were born at Kinsley, Near Pontefract.



I do not know if Thomas and Janet were single, at the time of the 1851 census.



I cannot find them in the 1851 census, can anyone help me, please.

Thomas is a lodger and a blacksmith.

Janet is recorded as daughter in law and says domestic duties.

It should show their fathers names and occupations.. also where they were living at the time of their marriage..

This seems to tick all the boxes. Can you tell me the address of the property.

I am sure it is correct. Thomas was a Blacksmith, born in Pateley Bridge.

The address is 5 Chadwick St, Hunslet. The head of the household is Peter Wright, a Labourer born in Scotland.



If you can access the image on Ancestry, if you go to the previous page it will give you the address as well as the head of the household and his wife.

Fantastic, that fills in that missing link. The marriage certificate should allow me to go back one more generation. He was found in the 1841 census, for Pateley Bridge, some debate on the name of his parents.

I was given some information that said Chambers and Mary were parents of Thomas born 1826 and John born 1829.

I can only be sure when I get the marriage certificate for Thomas, showing his father's name. The dates work. Kind Regards Lance.
