Thread: CLISHAN

Mary Clishan (or Clisham) born in Ireland and married a Peter Doherty around 1825-1830 and eventually settled in Liverpool after spending a few years in Tasmania with 63rd regiment. If anyone has any links for Clishan/Clisham I'd be really grateful!

not sure exactly what you have and what you are looking for. this appears to be the family in 1841 in Liverpool. As youngest born 1840 was born ireland it looks like they only arrived in liverpool shortly before 1841 census. as oldest child is born 1826 assume the marriage would be around 1825 in ireland.

On the census transcript, do you know what the mark is above 'swan river' for Hannah Dougherty and can we be confident this is 'swan', mightbthere be another interpretation?Also would Peter Dougherty be na 'army pensioner' or army private'?

i think the mark is the "N" for out of county and i think it does say swan river. as you know he spent some time in tasmania it is not impossible to think that hannah could have been born swan river australia. however looking at them on 1851 census it says hannah born liverpool. peter is chelsea pensioner.
