Liverpool birth (West Derby)
If a church was bombed out and all records distroyed how else can I find the info on the birth of someone?
Army records show some details so there must be something somewhere!

Hi Brackon,
I was just noseing lol at your post on Nannas thread and i have been trying to find possible births of your grandfather walter smith 1907 i have found 2 possibilities.
Name: Walter Smith Year of Registration: 1907 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec District: Liverpool (1837-1934) County: Lancashire Volume: 8b Page: 43 (click to see others on page)
Name: Walter Smith Year of Registration: 1906 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep District: West Derby County: Lancashire Volume: 8b Page: 546 (click to see others on page)Is it an estimated guess of the birth year?
I dont know if these are any good its just a stab in the dark really.
Oh Kelly , this is more info than I have thank you.
Now I need to be able to see who his parents are. I don't want to keep buying credits incase it isn't him.
Do you know if there is any other way of getting hold of this info?
Thanks again, Bracken x
Hi Bracken,
The only way of finding his parents is to order the birth certificate, that will have all the info you need, parents names actual date of birth, where born , the occupation of the father and the address at the time of birth.
They are a great source of information.

Hi Kelly Unfortunatly there doesn't seem to be a birth certificate??!!
All records I have are marraige certificate and a letter from the army both giving the same date of birth and Liverpool West Derby.
The church was bombed out and records destroyed or so mum was told. Mum has been to Brome terrace (or wherever it is now) and there are no records. I have sent off to the BMD in Southport last week asking for his birth certificate but I know I am wasting mioney and time. Mum told me he was brought up by a lady she called Nana (Mrs McCard). Nana had a daughter Nellie. Putting 2 and 2 together we asume Nellie gave birth to him illigitimatly so Nana brought him up!!!!!
All this is speculation as we have no definate proof. I need something like Gores where they state who lived in the property and who was related to who but not sure if anything exists like that.
Keep hitting a brick wall. Thanks anyway, Bracken.x
Hi bracken,
That is a shame. Im not sure how you would find his parents names thats quite difficult now you cant get a birth cert.
Maybe the new member who posted in the introduce yourself forum can help you as she is researching the exact same names as you
click this link and it will take you to her post, you never know you might get lucky with her

Good luck

Thanks kelly sent you a pm,

Are you sure about this Bracken? The registry office in Liverpool may have been bombed but the birth record would still have been sent to the general records office (national records) which was not.
Gillian
Hi guys, Gillian thats what i thought, but i didnt want to sound stupid
The ref numbers are both there to order the certs so they must be ok, because if they had been burnt they wouldnt have the reference number would they?
Hi Girls yes I agree with what you both say but no one seems to have one for him.
Mum has tried but got no where. it is so frustrating.
There must be a record somewhere,as my dad said, the army would only take info from the origional docs, therefore his birthday must be right but I am giving a bit of leway just in case.
I have ordered his birth certificate from BMD in southport but they wont be sending it out till 22nd May so seems so long to wait, if they can find one.
Mum has been to Liverpool to check on records but to no avail. Mum was one of 10 children with only four now alive and they have tried too.
There has got to be something somewhere but am I looking in the right places?? such a mystery.
Thanks,Bracken x![]()
