Thread: 1891 Census Yorkshire / Lancashire

I have the following information from the 1901 Census for Morley, near Leeds.



William Bentley, Head, Blacksmith, aged 41, born Manchester, Lancashire

ELiza Bentley, Wife, Woolen Weaver, aged 42, born Timsbury, Somerset

Willian Bentley, son, aged 5, born Morley, Yorkshire



Can some kind person advise details of the parents, as shown above, from the 1891 census. Regards.

I think this is Williams marriage..Eliza Clayton, 1stq 1895 Dewsbury, vol 9b page 748..If you buy the marr cert it will tell you the fathers name..Ill have a look for the 1891c..

This is the 1901c if anyone wants a look..

Mary Clayton daughter age 15 Morley Yorksire.

Thank you. There are a few marriages in the Leeds region for William Bentley and various Elizas.

Mary Clayton, could she be the daughter of Eliza, from a previous marriage.

I have looked in the 1881 census and there is a William Bentley 21, living in Manchester with his parents John & Annie Bentley + other children. All living at 15A, Ancoats Grove, Manchester. I had hoped the 1891 census may have pulled everything together. Regards Lance.

Hi, Looking at the census it does look like Mary Clayton is Elizas daughter.



Eliza could have been married before or maybe Mary is illegitimate. Without buying the certs and without knowing the fathers names its guesswork really.



I have found the 1881c you referred to...RG11; Piece: 3986; Folio: 36; Page: 13 1881c......... but I cant find William with his parents on the 1891c..I will take another look tomorrow..

I wonder if this is Eliza with Mary in 1891, if so she's recorded as ELLEN, but everything else seems to fit.

The name is wrong, the ages are wrong, however, the birth place of Timsbury, Somerset is perhaps the key.

Eliza was born in Timsbury, which is a tiny village in Somerset, near Bath.

There must be some connection, cannot be a coincidence.

Really need to find William Bentley in 1891.
