Hi Wendy - William Worswick Birtwistle was a private in the Royal Medical Corps in WW1 - you can download his medal card from the National Archives site for £3-50 - click on documents online - World War 1 campaign medals. The info given isn't always that helpful but worth a try.

Re the children - as stated on a previous thread. I suggest you look on freeBMD for Birtwistle births district Haslingden where the marriage took place. Unfortunately there are lots of them and the mother's maiden name isn't stated until 3rd quarter 1911. You may see some names which mean something to you?
