Thread: Parish Records Kington, Herefordshire

Help please from Kington, Herefordshire Parish Records:

James Thomas Mutlow Hodges b.abt 1791 Kington.

1. Wish to verify his birth, find details of baptism and parentage.

2. He married an Elizabeth - seeking details of marriage, spouse's surname. Marriage bet. 1809 and 1811, possibly Herefordshire (but could be London as eldest dau b.1811 (3) London).

3. Also seeking origin of the Mutlow in his name - could be from his or wife's forebears, as Mutlow/Mutloe common name in Herefordshire & Gloucestershire.

My 1st Post! - any help appreciated.

Thanks - I already have that marriage detail - but I am not entirely happy with it - I would like detail from the actual Parish Records if anyone has a copy.

All the children of the marriage were born in London, where parents specified as James Thomas Mutlow Hodges and Elizabeth. It doesn't ring true that he should marry in Herefordshire then move to London before starting his family (just my view).

Hi, A person with the name James Thomas Mutlow Hodges was christened 7th October 1791 in Kington Herefordshire, Parents were Thomas and Margaret batch no is C137162

Thanks Spence, I do also have that info. I use the LDS site a lot and find the IGI most useful. I probably did not make clear what I was really seeking with my first post ...

I really want someone who has access to Parish Records for Kington, probably archived at Hereford? It is the info that is not in the IGI records that I am looking for, such as the surname of James' mother, some link back for another generation (ie Thomas and Margaret's parents). James' spouse's surname and marriage details (the Elizabeth Veal possibility is good but doesn't ring true for me) - may well turn out to be a Stepney, London area wedding.

I can probably check the Kington parish records for you (see my thread SoG look-ups on the Offer Help board) but I think there is unlikely be more detail than on the IGI. Worth a try though.

An alternative way would be to ask your nearest LDS centre to order the relevant microfilm (they do so for a small charge) and you could then have a look at the records yourself at the centre.

If the James I seek IS James Thomas Mutlow Hodges (as on the IGI) then his parents (according to the IGI) are Thomas Hodges and Margaret. I shall be most interested to learn if Margaret is in fact Margaret Mutlow (or Mutloe) to explain the Mutlow in James' name.

I do not know of any LDS centre in the UK that is accessible to me - I live in the mountains of North Wales - I am disabled so don't travel far.
