Default 1861 and 1871 census lookup Scotland

Could some kind soul try and find Robert Rogers in the 61 and 71 census for Scotland please?

Robert was born 1833 in Wales. I know he was in Scotland with wife and new daughter [she was born/baptised there 1858]. 61 census has his wife/children back in England [Dover]. I'm assuming he stayed in Scotland for work [or whatever] - perhaps he died there?

Any help would be great thank you.

    Maureen

    Hi Raven,

thank you so much for that - I'm not 100% sure that's him but it's the only census info. I've had on Robert Rogers since 1851, and the age is spot on. Pardon my ignorance - but where is Roxburghshire? are we still in Scotland? What's Ry Tunnel miner - is Ry a place? -I suppose this job to be manual labour - forgive my lack of knowledge on this oneo The reasons for these questions is that on his marriage cert. his occ. is farm labourer. Is it possible to find him in 1871?

I couldn't find his wife [Mary] in 71 but the two children are in Wales with paternal g.mother.

    Again, thank you

    Maureen

    Hi Maureen,

Roxburghshire is in Scotland it is near the border with England.

    Roxburghshire

I have searched for him on the 1871 Census but sorry to say nothing is jumping out at me.

What's Ry Tunnel miner? This could possibly be a Railway Tunnel Miner, I think.

Will have another search for him for you...

Maureen, can you give me the names of some of the children, please??

Hello again - What's Ry Tunnel miner? This could possibly be a Railway Tunnel Miner, I think. o oh how silly of me, of course it would be

Robert and his wife Mary [Hocking] had two children:

Edward John Rogers born 1857 Dover, Kent.

Mary Ellen Rogers, born 1858, Kippen, Stirling, Scotland.

I've just noticed a posting in Graveyards/Memorials and have asked Wardy Pawdy to have a look - just might be that a mishap with Robert and that's why his wife went back to Dover.

    Thanks again

    Maureen

    Thanks again Raven,

Do you think it's a fair assumption that Robert sent his wife and children back to Devon while he was working on the railway tunnel? As I said before this is the only Robert Rogers I can find for 1861 anywhere. For 1871 the children are in Wales [without their mother/father] and then in 1881 the children are in Lancashire [son married, daughter in service] again without mother/father.

I know I'm going on a bit, but when the daughter [Mary Ellen] marries in 1884, she has her father occ. down as 'gardener' and it doesn't say deceased.

    Thanks for looking

    Maureen
