    Default John Knox

    Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone can help me as im completely stuck.

I am trying to find a birth of a john knox b1800? I have him on the 1841 census with his family in hampshire (which star kindly found for me) i know he was born in York thats what it says on the census and on the IGI, his wife was called Ann Richmond. He died 1850 aged 50 years.

One of their daughters was born in York so i know they were there for sure.

i really want to find his parents, but i know this is going to be very hard.

Also if anyone can find the marriage of john and ann that would also be great.

Any help on this would be fantastic.

    Fingers crossed someone can help

    Hi Kelly,

Was the marriage found ? If he married in England I can't see a way of finding him as there are so many John Knox's born in Scotland around 1800. If only he had survived the 1851 census we might have a county in Scotland to go by.

    Hi Star,

I dont have a marriage for them, i just have them on the 41 census i know they married in york. Their 1st child was born in york about 1827.

Thats all i know maybe i should be looking in the 41 for maybe family members either in hampshire or york, you never know there maybe a brother about close or even parents that may give hints to whereabbouts in scotland.

God what a shot in the dark that would be.

    Thanks anyway star xx

Hi Kelly - I give John Knox some thought every now and then (without coming up with anything!)

There is a York marriage index for the right dates and I recently looked again but there isn't anything.

The eldest 2 children and Ann Richmond were baptised at St Wilfrids which is an RC church. It seems pretty likely that John & Ann were married there. In which case the records may not survive - see this link for some background http://nationalarchives.gov.uk/catal...fletID=415&j=1

I have looked on BMDregisters which has some RC records but the marriage isn't there. Unfortunately if he was RC John's birth wouldn't be on ScotlandsPeople either.

I looked at the York City Archive website and could not find any reference to St Wilfrids but it might be worth your while to email them to check.

The only other thing I can think of is is to order the film of the oldest childrens baptisms to look at at your nearest LDS centre (small charge) just in case the original record says where John was from.

    Hi Kelly -

    Brother Knox - I don't know.

Sorry made an error in posting - should have read baptism not marriage at St Wilfrids.

I'll look up the baptisms for you if you like - will probably take about 3 weeks
