Thread: Looking for help finding my Jacobs family

I would appreciate any help with any info on the following. I am trying to trace my grandads side of the family the Jacobs. I can not seem to find anything out other than the information i have below starting with my Grandad Henry Charles Jacobs born 7.7.1899 Lambeth. Parents James Jacobs and Eliza Ann Allberry. James born 1864 Stoke Newington. Parents George Frederick Jacobs b 1836 died 1887 married Mary Ann Robertson 21.2.1860 parents of George were this is where i need help. On Georges marriage cert his father was Samuel Jacobs and have been told he was married to Elizabeth Ann Reynolds known as Ann but this is something i have to find out but dont know how. Mary Ann Robertson father was Edward Robertson but this is also to be found out as i had information that her fathers name was Charles but until i received a copy of the marriage cert then found out it wasnt Charles but Edward. I need help if anyone can either help me with info or point me in the right direction as to finding Samuel and his wife working backwards if possible and Mary Anns parents, i know this is probably confusing anyone reading this but believe me it has been driving me mad for months now and am about to give up as they seem a very elusive lot and just dont seem to want to be found. On top of this i have also been told we have Jewish connections which i yet have to find and dont know how, but with not being able to find them in the census's etc and any info could this be where the Jewish connection comes in and they came from another country. Please someone out there in genealogy land help me i really need it now and i would appreciate any help anyone can offer me.

Wow Gillian thank you so much that is brilliant, how do you do it and where do i go now to find Amelia's maiden name and work backwards from Samuel and Elizabeth i dont know if i use the IGI wrong but i can never get any info from that so must be doing something wrong somewhere, i really appreciate your help thank you so much

i forgot to mention you have hit the right family as the dates and places match with info i have but had nothing else to go on.

The IGI is a brilliant resource but a matter of luck as its coverage is so patchy - it isn't hard to use.

Try and find Amelia yourself - just put in Edward Robertson - Amelia - marriage - British Isles - England - London and see what comes up. Send me a pm if you get stuck.

The other thing you can do is to leave first and last name blank - put in father Edward Robertson, mother Amelia, click birth then search and you should get their other children.

i must be really thick i have tried all the suggestions you gave me and still made no headway think i am going to give up on this lot as i have been trying to trace them for so long now its driving me mad, silly thing is i have got my dads family back to 125AD but that was more luck i think than anything else as his family are well documented.
