Thread: orphanages

I apologise if I've posted this in the wrong place but was unsure where else to put it, I've been trying to trace my Great Grandmother for about three years now but so far have had no luck she was born Catherine Agnes Slade in Whitechapel 1881 and I believe had a sister called Annie, I'm not sure why but she grew up in an orphanage presumably in London somewhere (my Nan always said it was a really good place which taught the children and that she was very clever as a result) unfourtunatley she doesn't appear on any census returns atall, all I know is she married a Charles Stroud in 1903 in Eastbourne, does anyone know how I can trace the orphanage she was in or any other way I could find out more about her and her parents ect.

Have you got the marriage certificate of Catherine ? If so, was there any information about her parents on there.

Havn't bought her marriage cert yet but guess this would be something to try next or maybe her birth certificate would have more info on it.
