    Default My late Aunt Marjory

My Aunt Marjory Reekie Crawford was born, twin of my father, at Dunbarney, Perthshire, on 27 April 1907.

There was some 'disagreement' with her parents - James Crawford and Jessie Lindsay Neilson - when she married 'a farmer from a nearby farm' when the family were at Dukes Farm, Allen's Green, Sawbridgeworth, Herts in the early 1930's and that was the last anyone heard of her!!

Could someone try and determine her Marriage details and Census information for me please?

I do hope so as she's the only one of my Dad's family that I have no records for

    Hi Chiad,

The latest available census is the one taken in 1901, so Marjory will not be on any census.

Don't worry, we all have them. I am looking to see if I can find a possible marriage.

    Hi Chiad,

I think I have found her but you will need to get the marriage certificate to confirm it.

    Hi Starlight

Am I impressed ... or am I impressed? I've been trying to get this information for over three years and you come up with it in less than three hours!

This certainly looks like being a strong possibility ... the year 1938 fits, the Middle name initial 'R' (her middle name was Reekie) and B.Stortford - the family owned Dukes Farm, Allen's Green, Sawbridgeworth, Herts - and a visit there by her brother (my Uncle James Neilson Crawford) in 1933 when he was home on leave from Ceylon supports this.

Time for this Scotsman to spend some (more) money for a confirmation

    Hi Chiad,

You missed the main one . There are a few Margerie's and Marjorie's but this is the only one spelt Marjory. She is also the only one married in Hertfordshire in the 1930's.

    Hi Chiad,

Providing it turns out to be the correct marriage, Hatchett is not a particularly common name. There are no Hatchett births with a mother's maiden name of Crawford over the following ten years.

Starlight ... do you have a crystal ball? That was to be my next question!

OK! Let me get this one in first ... any Death records?

By the way ... and not wishing to be rude ... the 'handle' is 'Chiad Fhear'

It's from the Gaelic and loosely translates as 'FIRST ONE' ... our house name not my position in the family heirarchy!!
