    Default Sent to Australia

I need help to find Humphrey Llewellyn Lewis. I'm like Morgana in that the family took Humphrey, on his 21st birthday (1889), to Southampton and put on a boat to Australia and never heard of again. Don't know where he landed or the name of the ship.

I have found him in the UK records, but cannot seem to access any Australian records even though I live here! Here is what I have so far:-

    Births Lewis Humphrey Llewellyn Monmouth

    BMD Birth Index Jan-Mar 1868 v.11a, p. 37.

    Born in Llantilio Crosseney, Monmouth.

1881 Welsh Census; Source Citation: Class: RG11; Piece: 5227; Folio: 71; Page: 4; Line: ; GSU roll: 1342259.

Could anyone help me find where to start looking?

    Thanks Sandie

    Thanks for replying though.

    Hi Sandie,

Could not find an arrival for him in Assisted Immigration into NSW which is the only one so far on line. They are working on Unassisted index now but will take ages.

Could not find him in Queensland Immigration between 1883 - 1912.

Also nothing for Unassisted Immigrants into Victoria for that period.

I have found a death for a Humphrey L Lewis in 1921 in Newtown NSW. Parents Humphrey R and Mary A Registration No. 6096/1921

Could not find anything for him in the Victorian BDM Indexes.

I have found a marriage for a Humphrey R Lewis to an Elsie M Hare in 1920 in Sydney. Could this be a son. And a marriage for an Edward Llewellyn Lewis to Margaret Katherine Nolan in 1912 in Queensland. Another son? Don't know where he married though as I can't find a marriage for Humphrey Llewellyn in Victoria, NSW or Queensland.

This is a link for the National Library of Australia E-Resources giving links to information that is available online for the whole of Australia if you don't already have it. I find it very useful.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Kate,

Wow! what a lot of work you have done, Thank you so much I do appreciate it. Thanks also for the website which I will now have a good look at.

I don't think the death of Humphrey is correct tho' his parents were John Reece Lewis and Caroline Phoebe Lambert. The family has no idea what has happened to him after putting him on the boat, and assumed he died not too long after arriving in Australia. I have a disc (came with the family tree maker program Aust/NZ version) with emigrations by boat on it but have no record of the boats name, and I can't find on this disc any boats leaving Southampton.

    Thanks for your help,

    Sandie
