Default How to remove gedcom from OneWorld Tree?

Years ago I used Family Treemaker software. I did not know by uploading my information, it would be linked to the One World Tree. I have been trying for years to remove my gedcom, but it is still up there. There were some things on my site that I would never share now, I may have put erroneous information and information about people who want me to take it down. Is there anybody who can help me who has successfully unlinked their gedcoms or who is a good person to contact.

    Hi Geefamilytree,

    "Certain information is never shared.

OneWorldTree never shares information about living family members born after 1930. Any information in your family tree regarding living people born after 1930 will show up on your personal family tree but will remain hidden from other Ancestry members".

Terms and conditions are always changing so I would suggest you contact them at :-

    Hi Geefamilytree,

If your tree is a public tree, try going to "Change tree privacy".

Change option to private tree and see if that removes it. You will need to wait for any changes to accur but I have a feeling that terms and conditions at one time said you gave them ownership of the contents. However, I have seen a lot of names dissapear from there so it might not be the case now.

I have tried support many times, is there somewhere else I should go? My information may be private, (for living people), for now, but down the road I am sure it will become public. I have a small personal, private tree. I never wanted it public like this. There are only a couple of hundred of people on it and I never post a gedcom, anymore.

I have ancestors connected to the holocaust. I am actually sorry I started this research and may pull my tree offline because I am so upset with what I may have put in my gedcom as a newbie, information I would never share now. I wouldn't have shared it back then if I knew. It has always been a personal site in my mind. .I have sent my tree to get a copyright, but that doesn't help much, now. I am really hoping someone at Ancestry will make things right for me.

    Hi Ruth,

    Found this in "Help"

    Removing your file

To delete a file that you have added to the Ancestry World Tree through your Online Family Tree, simply select the Remove link (or the icon). If neither this link nor this icon is accessible, you will most likely see a Submit link (or the icon). If this is the case, the file is not currently submitted to the Ancestry World Tree. If you select the Delete link (or the icon), your file will be removed from both the Ancestry World Tree and your list of Online Family Tree files.

Note: We do not provide backup copies of user created files. These are the sole responsibility of those who use the Online Family Trees and / or post to the Ancestry World Tree database. We strong recommend all members keep backups of their own files using the various forms of storage available

Thanks. I have tried to delete the gedcom by clicking my name on one world tree and trying to delete myself. When it brings me up personally, I delete myself, but the gedcom is still available, including the aftenafel, the pedigree,

etc. Are there any tricks i can do if I bring up the gedcom page. My tree is not in any other sites. I think it was on Ancestry, but they just removed it from their tree. It only comes up in One World Tree. Thank you for your help!!!!!

    Hi Ruth,

I have just checked mine as I put mine on One tree World a few weeks ago and then changed my mind and changed my tree back to a personal one. The information I put on one tree world has gone.

Could it be that someone has already copied your information onto their own tree, and this is what you are looking at. If you had allowed downloading of gedcom this could have been done in seconds.

About three years ago someone did steal my information. It took over a year to get her to delete it. And she wasn't connected to me, she just thought she may be. We just have the same surname from West Yorkshire. And there are probably thousands of family with that name all over England. She did take it down. Then the information was just in my name on One World Tree/AncestryWorldTree . I asked them to delete my gedcom but they deleted me as contact. Maybe because my email address changed. So I have sent them all my email addresses and the links to my gedcom.

It seems like there are so many different groups to contact and I get sent from one group to another.

I have no complaints about Ancestry product and understand all about public records. I just wanted to keep my own research private and not be hooked into trees I am not aware of!

    Thanks again

    Ruth
