hello, im new to this site.

im looking for any imfomation on my grandfather william stuart mckinnon dob 13/08/1898 in falkirk (this imformation was taken from his seaman cards), was a merchant seaman in southampton in 1938 but had disappeared by early 1940,scotland bdm have no birth registared at this date or name.possible a illegitamate birth although his marriage cert has his fathers name as william mckinnon(deceased).

any help or ideas where i could look would be greatful accepted.

my gmother lied on her marriage cert said her fathers name was John Featherstone and he was decessed she was illegitimate and never knew who her father was. sorry this is all the help i can give Valxxx

This do seem to come up quite a lot , one of my grt grandmothers put her mother as surname and her father as christian name altough they were never wed. Took a while to sort it all out.
