Thread: Thirlwells

Hey all, sorry to harass the boards again



Doing some research for a friend during the holidays and I have traced her family in Oz to Michael Thirlwell who married Henrietta Pabst. Their eldest child was born in 1863. According to his death record on 1904, Michael died aged 63 the son of John & Dorothy (nee Smith)(haven't yet found when they arrived here). This indicates he was born about 1841, but the only Michael Thirlwell I could find on the IGI was baptised in 1843, Corbridge, Northumberland, to John & Ann Hall, and he is accounted for in the 1881 census (tailor living in Watling St., Corbridge).



He could have possibly had a sister Dorothy who married in 1870, Victoria and gave her place of birth as Durham (don't know when Michael married)



Hoping they're on the earlier censuses.

I have tried everything I can think of. John's just don't seem to marry Dorothy's for some reason . I cannot find a marriage for Michael either.

I have a feeling Michael married in Australia, I just can't find it on the BDM indexes.



The informant to the death certificate may not have had the correct details for his family, as his wife (who should have known) predeceased him...

I found a Thomas Thirlwell in the indexes whose parents were John & Jane, and I am yet to find Dorothy Bowen (nee Thirwell's) death...



Could you just do a random search of the '51 for Michael Thirlwell? I don't think it'd be a very common name, but there's always the possibility of mistranscription and they could have already been here....







Could you please do a quick check for Michael Jesse Hooper (born 1838, Littleham, Devon) and Grace Kingdon (born 1834, North Molton, Devon) - these are connected, so I figured I'd ask here as well. Michael was in Littleham in both the 41 and 51 and Grace was in South Molton in 41, but don't know where in 51 (they married on Christmas Day 1863 in Victoria)

There are no Michaels turning up at all in 1851. Many Thirlwell's have been mistranscribed but the corrections have been added.
