Thread: cannot find Richard Tebbs

Sorry to keep posting, but I have another brick wall!!



Richard Tebbs born 1879 Gainsborough Lincolnshire.

I have him in the 1891 census 12 years old in Gainsborough.

Then he is missing in the 1901 census when the family are back in Leeds minus father Richard who has done a runner to America!!!



So presume that he has died, or left home, but my Aunt who is 90 and Grandaughter of Richard senior seems to remember that he died.



Can anyone find a record of his death, either in Gainsborough or Leeds. I have looked in the usual places but can find nothing!



No one knows why Richard senior went to America, in fact no one knew where he had gone, I have since found that out through my research, that he left in 1895, so Richards death could have had something to do with that.



Hope you are not all fed up of my requests!!Maybe I should lie low for a while?



I am a Tebbs so this is my direct line.

Did you find Richard senior in America ? Was he born abt 1858. If so I have him in New Jersey .

Yes thank you, Starlight, I have everything on Richard in America..even his bigamous marriage and his burial on Long Island!!



I have everything also on the children he left behind, one of them being my Grandfather, but Richard junior remains a mystery.The stange thing is they seemed pretty efficient about registering BDM except in this case.

Sorry not had a chance to get to his death yet. Cannot find him on 1901.



I checked the birth indexes and couldn't find a Richard Tebbs born in 1879. Could only find this one which is also on free BMD

It is a mystery to me what happened to Richard, maybe he did not die.

You know, maybe he did not die. I could be being mislead by my Aunts version of what happened and I have never looked for him in the 1901 census. MAybe that is something i should consider!! You have the correct Richard in 1878, so he would have been 22 in 1901 and probably have left home by then.

t is just so frustrating when you can trace all members of a family except one, never mind will just have to move on from that now.
