    Dear listers,

I have searched "Findmypast" and found no matches I could be certain of. Of the Australian based "Shipslist" and the Government sites they were fruitless.

    Dear Lisabyrne,

Many thanks, you've been very kind. They certainly look good to me as a match but when I went to insert the info I am reminded of something. On James wedding certificate Emma is called Johnson in brackets not Viercant.

The thing that puzzles me I can't find an entry for a George Sowter or Emma into Australia. There are Sowters but George and Emma.

Best wishes to you and yours, Ray

    Hi Ray,

This might help you in your research,I have Sowters in my family tree. My grtx5 grandfather was a William Sowter he was born on the 25/03/1712 in Amberley Sussex he married Mary Young on the 11/02/1749, he died on the 08/03/1764 in Amberley Sussex, Mary died on the 30/04/1784 also in Amberley Sussex. One of their sons was Thomas Souton born 12/04/1752 in Amberley he married a Ruth Lamper on the 07/10/1779 in Ferring Sussex and died on the 31/101832 in Steyning Sussex, as you can see the family had moved from Amberley to Stayning, also and more importantly, Thomas had changed the family name from Sowter to Souton.

I was stumped for a while and, could notget a trace, then a fellow nut case told me about people and families changing their names, and of I went at the gallop. My grtx3 Ann Souton married a Joseph Goldsmith on the 22/03/1804 in Lewes Sussex, all Ann's siblings used the surname Souton. I hope this of help to you in your research,if I can be of help please get in touch.Who knows we might be related.

    Kind Regards,

    Tomscot.
