    Default Wm.AKED missing all censuses

Mary Ann MORTIMER b.Q1 1844 Registered Bradford 23/168

    Married William AKED Q3 1867 Dewsbury, Yks 9b 738

Mary Ann, married, lives at home with her parents, William and Sarah MORTIMER, at Sickle Street, Cleckheaton after her marriage. By the 1871 census she has two children, Laura AKED age 2 and Spencer Mortimer AKED age 1. Her husband William AKED is not living with them.

By 1881 Mary Ann is still married and living in Cleckheaton with her parents, her children Laura and Spencer, as well as Edith who was born ca.1876. Still no husband.

In 1891 Mary Ann is still married, with no further children, and living with her is her widowed mother Sarah.

I have William AKED b.Q3 1844 registered Bradford 23/156 but have been unable to find out anything more about him. Not even the most general search in 1881 turns him up.

Can anyone please make a suggestion as to where I can look? How can I find out if he was at sea?

    Hi

Have you a copy of the marriage cert - that would tell you his occupation in 1867 and also his fathers name and occupation.

There was an Aked family in Cleckheaton, father William [b about 1812, who was a currier (don't know if they meant courrier?)] with a son William (b about 1845) in the 1851/61 census. This could be his family? The cert would tell you.

    Hello John,

Thanks for your reply. No, I don't have the marriage certificate. Only able to purchase certs for the most direct of my ancestors, I'm afraid. Just hoped someone might have access to Parish Registers.

Have made a note of the Cleckheaton family you found on the 1851/61 just in case.

    Thanks again,

    Maid of Kent
