Thread: Death/burial date please

I have had a lot of help from this board in my search for the Daniel family but I would like to ask for another search please



I want to send for the will of John Daniel, born in 1806 in Yorkshire ,but I do not seem to have a date of death for him, I have looked through my previous posts but cannot find anything referring to a date of burial or death.



He was born in Yorkshire and I have him in the 1861 census so the death date would be after this.



I have looked in the Yorkshire BMD but there are a lot of John Daniels, so this could be a problem!Unfortunately there is no middle name.



Hope you can help and sorry for harping on about the Daniels, but there is a mystery waiting to be solved with this family.

Hi Brenda,



If you have him on the 1861 census, you will have exactly where he was living. This will considerably reduce the number of possibilites in your search on the Yorkshire BMD to just the registation district that covers the area where he lives.



Also if it is post 1861 the is a good possiblity that his age at death will be given therefore letting you narrow it down even further.

Thanks for that information...The reg district on the 1861 census is Leeds West and unfortunately there are 5 John Daniels from that district..with no ages.



I do not have a subscription but I will look at Ancestry and see if they have a record with birth year as well.

No need to look on Ancestry as they only get their information from FreeBMD which is available for anyone to look at.



The only John Daniels who are listed as having died in the Leeds district are as follows: -

None of them seem to fit with your chap

I had looked on Ancestry and the only possibility there is a John Daniel, West Leeds/Hunslet, but born 1804, which is 2 years difference to the birth date of my John (1806)



I could risk it and send for death certificate, before sending for will!

This may set the cat amongst the pigeons, but I don't want you to waste unnecessary money on a cert. There was another J.D. living in Leeds born 1804, of course he isn't necessarily the one who died in 1872, but I wanted to make you aware of him. Sorry if I'm adding to the confusion.

Brenda..........a little more info. In 1851 and 61 John was living in Coburg Street which was on the North side of the city near to where the university of Leeds is now. Hunslet on the other hand is South of the city centre. Unless he fell on hard times it would be unlikely he'd move from North side to South side of the city. Hope this helps, but fear it may throw you into confusion Sorry if that's the case.

Thanks for that.I do not think that the Pately Bridge John is mine but as I do not have any birth details for John I could not be sure.



Daughter Mary still lived in Coburg Street in 1871 with her neice Elizabeth lloyd Daniel, so presume both mother and father died between 1861 and 1871.



It is confusing, but Coburg Street is in West Leeds, so death was probably registered in that area.



The Merrion Centre is now where Coburg Street was.



Still undecided what do do??

This isn't quite correct. There are 2 bmd indexes on Ancestry, a partial index, which is Free BMD, and the complete index which contains the original images.
