    Hi

The only one possible I can see is Joseph Collier, 15, b South Shields at an Industrial School, Fitters Row, Sunderland.

There was a Mary Ann Collier died oct-dec 1858, South Shields, 10a, 282. This could be Williams wife?

    Best wishes, John

Hi John. Thank you for that. It would be Mary Ann because I know she died between 1851 and 1861. Would a death certificate give parents names or a marriage certificate? Cheers

    Hi

A death cert, at this date, would give date and place of death, name, sex, age, what they died of, and who registered the death. It doesn't help much in other areas.

Marriage certs started in 1837, and the early ones gave both names, whether over 21, his occup, addresses, both fathers and their occups + two witnesses names.

If it is before 1837 (which it may be, as I can't see any obvious ones for either William Collier or Mary Ann (Lawson?)), you'll have to get someone to find the parish records and look them up. There will be even less info (probably not the fathers names).

    John

Thanks John. I found a marriage for William Collier & Mary Coulson 1843, so I think thats it. benjamins marriage certificate here in Australia gave that name for his mother although it said Mary Ann. Ill think Ill try that one. Cheers
