Thread: Govier family

I,m new to this but have had so many heads and still cant get to the bottom of it ......I,m looking for a man Peter Govier born 1855 in Paddington and died in 1888. He is on the 1881 census with his wife ellan ....and 2 children Roset and florance ..BUT my granny is also ment ot be there...she was born in 1881 ..but NO birth record but has a marriage certificate ...she married in 1901 to Joseph Hicks ...

Please could anyone help find them and where they came from ???

Peter will not be on the 1891 census but this may be the first one that your nan was on. What was her name ?

...Sorry lost the plot .....Her name is Emily name became Emily Hicks in the 1901 marriage to Joseph Hicks they married in the Dec 1901 .....

Emilys parents are Peter and Ellan ...I have found Ellan on the 1901 census with Rosey and Florance and Thomas and some other children !!! But still nothing on Emily at all. cant find her on 1891 census either!

I'm sorry I cannot help you, but I too have just joined this forum (today) and you can imagine how surprised I was to see a 'Govier Family' thread at the top - I have a Govier in my ancestry, and it is NOT a common name! Ours are from Long Crendon in Buckinghamshire.

Thanks for your time on this ....we have been looking into the family some more and found and Auntie that may be able to help So I,ve written to her in hope



Also some one found out that her sister Rosey was disabled ....well so was Emily ...so the thinking is prehaps Emily and Rosey are the same person ....Will keep you informed

Its taken me a year to sort this one out ...BUT we did it.

My mum found an old letter from my great Auntie who lives in South Africa,My mum never keeps letters ....But she kept this one coz it had Aunties addy on it !!



But inside Auntie had send a scrap of paper with our family tree on it ,she was asking if there were any mistakes ,mum had never looked at it ...But it gave us Emily Hicks Grand mas name Sarah Ellen Eary .....so GR and I put the bits together and filled in the middle



Emily went to live with her Great Uncle ..he had lost his wife and Emily was pregnant with a son Thomas !!!
