Hi Marion
Yes I found him, it is the Herbert F born March 1917, you missed the year off, so I checked in the Yorkshire BMD and there he was...no mistake because the mothers maiden name is given. Thank you for that. I am now going to see if I can find a marriage for Herbert F.
I had given up hope and had put this part of my family research on hold, but this has given me a kick start again.
Grateful thanks

Hi again
I now need either death date for Herbert F Russell born Leeds March 1917 or a marriage date for him.
I have checked the usual sites but it gets a bit more difficult with later dates.
Many Thanks
Brenda
Hello I have found him but sadly he was killed in ww2. I will see if they had any children. Regards Marion

Hi Brenda - deaths are difficult - there are an amazing number of Harold F's.
Marriages - searched 1935-1948 & the only ones I could see were -
Loughborough 7a 412 Harold F Russell to Winifred Cozens 4th quarter 1936 (I think I have excluded this one though - I found a death for an HFS in Loughborough and the date of birth didn't match)
Bromsgrove 9d 14 Harold F Russell to Phyllis R Windsor 3rd quarter 1947
I'll have a look at later marriages when I have a bit of time
Gillian
Hi
Thank you for that Gillian and congratulations on becoming'STAFF' ..well deserved! ( Russell's are much harder than Tebbs's) The reason I wanted to know when Harold F died was that I thought I would send for his death certificate to see who registered the death.
Marion that is wonderful, sad that he was killed, but it does give me his wifes name which perhaps I can follow up and see if there are any children.
The story is this...I have tried over the years to find out what happened to my Grandfather Roland Russell, (it is a pity that we do not ask more questions when relatives are alive). All I was ever told was that he died in the war,as he was born in 1889 this would be the first world war. There is certainly no trace of him in any records, I have exhausted every avenue. So I thought I would try to trace family of his brother Harold F Russell to see if I could find anything that way.So Herbert Frederick would have been my Grandfathers nephew. There was only one other sibling a girl Evelyn, but it is always harder to trace a family through a female.
Sounds complicated but
John W Russell had 3 children
Harold F 1882
Evelyn 1886
Roland (my Grandfather) 1889 no trace
Harold F had one son
Herbert F born 1917 now know to be killed in action
So Herbert would have been my mothers cousin, I do not know what that would make him to me.
As he was only 28 when he died I wonder if he had any children, I have some new leads now.
Thais is what makes family history so addictive, just when you hit a brick wall something new turns up.
I would love to know if you can find my Grandfather Roland. I have had help on this board before so would not want to waste your time...no one has been able to find him, and it was suggested that maybe he died in a Military Hospital.
Grateful thanks to you both
Brenda
