    Default Help needed please

My grandmother Margaret Blackledge b. 10.1.1892 Stepney

She appears on the 1901 census as daughter, living with father Henry, Mary mother, siblings John, Susan and Jim.

I have Margaret's birth certificate which states parents Henry Blackledge and Sarah McPhierson (which I think should be spelt McPherson). I cannot find a marriage for them, but they appear on the 1891 census with a son Henry and a Fred McPherson (wife's son).

I have checked all the quarters in 1892 and there is only one Margaret Blackledge born in that year so this must be my grandmother, but where is her mother and brother Henry in 1901? I can find no trace of them.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Regards Teresa

not much to go on but i think this could be the brother henry:

    Deaths Mar 1892

    Blackledge Harry 1 Stepney 1c384

    for info only:

    that 1891 census:

    BLACKLIDGE, Henry23MMile End Old Town

    BLACKLIDGE, Sarah23FMile End Old Town

    BLACKLIDGE, Henry0MMile End Old Town

    MCPHERSON, Fred8MMile End Old Town

In 1901 they are living in limehouse. I would presume mary the 2nd partner as she is only 30 in 1901 and she was born st george east, london. at a guess i would say the john 6, susan 4 and jim 2 were hers. I too cant find any marriages and would guess they just took his name.

    the other children:

Births Jun 1895 Blackledge John Stepney 1c458

Births Jun 1897 Blackledge Susannah Stepney 1c405

Births Mar 1899 Blackledge James Mile End 1c518

    Hi Lisa

Thank you so much for going to the trouble of looking for the missing Henry, I'm sure this must be him. It is a pity I cannot find Sarah, I'm sure she lived until about 1945 as my mother can remember her mother-in-law Margaret Blackledge going to her mother Sarah's funeral.

    Kind regards Teresa

    Hi Teresa

Ive checked the death indexes 1944 - 1946 and can't find a death for Sarah Blackledge HOWEVER the Dec 1945 page has been damaged....just at the point which MAY have listed Sarah (

If you purchase the birth cert for one of the later children, then it will show Mothers Name and Maiden name

I believe that if she was not married to Henry, it would only show her with her maiden name.....unless she had changed her name by Deed Poll (not sure how easy/common that would have been at that time)

    Good Luck with your research

    Loz

    Hi Loz

Thank you for looking for Sarah's death, knowing my luck she no doubt was registered in the missing period!! On the other hand she could have married someone else or taken their name and if that is the case I will never find her, living in hope!!

    Regards Teresa
