Thread: advice and maybe help needed please

I have Decided that it is Time to start Going down my Maternal Line But i just do not know where to start. my mums parents Had my mum at an 'older' age so my mum knows nothing about her grandparents and very Little About her Parents past.



All i do know so far is that my Grandad was a James Bruce Peterson and My Gran was a margaret Milnkelman Treloar (unknown maiden name)



James Died around 1981 and Margaret in 1972/1973



they had three Kids James alexander, carol Sterling and Rosemary Raitt.



I Dont know where to Turn. i know census records arent available and i cant seem to Find a match for a Marriage.



i have Spoken to my mum who said Margaret was Born in aberdeen and her father Was maybe lanarkshire.



any advice would be greatly Apreciated... It will be Soooo much easier if i can make it far enough back to get to the Census records

You say Margaret's maiden name is unknown, does this mean she was previously married ?



Were thy still living in Scotland when the children were born ?

as far sa i know Margaret wasnt Previously married But my Mum or Her sister cannot seem to Recal her name, and All Certification on her Was lost in a Fire.



Before Children were Born they Moved to South Yorkshire... to Maltby in Rotherham to Be Precise (i even have address as the House was 3 Doors down from where i Grew up)



I know that the Oldest Child Carol was Born in Scotland as margaret took a holiday up in Scotland and Ended up having her there before bringing her home to Rotherham. My Mother Rosemary wasnt born in Hospital, She was Born in the House they Lived in...

Have you checked your mother's birth certificate, it should give you the maiden name of her mother.

i havent got the Certificate for my mother that Shows the parents names... only the simple Certificate... i think i will have to look into Buying one at some point i think.

If you know Carol's approx year of birth I will have a quick look but can't promise anything as Aberdeen is a big place and Peterson quite a common name. If she is still living send the info via PM.

We now know that Margaret's maiden name was Raitt. Are you ok now with searching for the marriage or do you need help ?

sorry i didnt get back to you Starlight... my net connection went down and i have Only just got back up. i will be having a look for the marriage later on today after i have Finished looking for a Brother of my aunt in law who died as a youngster (finished looking or given up looking that is) If i cant get anything i will shout, thanks vey much for the help

well, i have been looking and i have Found nothing so far... are there any Sites that i should be looking at? (am waiting till the end of the month for getting sub for scotlandspeople or what ever name it is)

No such luck with free records in Scotland . I will have a quick look later and if I find anything will let you know where to look.
