Thread: I need Help

Hi everyone, sorry I have not been in touch before, but I have got new software for my family history and I have been entering all the information.



I have come across a problem. I have the marriage certificate of Alfred Miller & Mary Hartley. They married in York 1891, she was aged 19 year's, the problem is I cannot read Mary's, father's first name. Mary and Alfred's first three children were all born in York but the forth child was born in Halifax, Yorkshire. All I know about Mary's father is that his surname is Hartley and that he was a Confectionery in York. The marriage certificate states that he was deceased at the time of marriage.

They lived at Little Stonegate, York, Yorkshire.



Can anyone help me please, I don't know where to start with this problem.

you could try scanning the certificate and posting it so that other people could have a look and give you their opinion on the name .. it might narrow it down a bit. you could try looking at the 1891 census for the address on the certificate (if they married later in the year than the census)and see who is living there. that night give you a clue on other family members who you might be able to find on the 1881 and then 1871 census. this could give you a lead backwards.

If you have Mary and Alfred on the 1901 census, or Mary on the1891, could you please post details..........as this will help in the search.
