    Default Mystery Woman

Have been contacted today by the grand daughter of my grandads sister (I have no idea of our relationship) The lady was asking for information on the death of Sarah Oldfield (formerly Browning)

Sarah Browning was born 9 Jan 1864 in Birmingham, she married James Oldfield 2 Jun 1882, again in Birmingham.

The lady was told by her grandmother, Alice May Sprason (formerly Oldfield) that she had identified the body of Sarah Oldfield after Sarah had drowned herself in the Canal in Rea Street Birmingham. Alice May Sprason was approx 17 at this time, and as she was born in 1892/1893 it would have been approx 1909/1910. I should add, that there isn't a canal in Rea Street, but the River Rea does cross under the road.

I have spent years and years trying to find the death of Sarah Oldfield, but without success. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I should imagine that if the local paper has archives dating back that far, an inquest may have been recorded.

Someone found my GtGt Grandfather's coroner's report in a local paper for 1890. He had commit suicide.

Thank you dominex. It looks like I shall have to plan a trip into Birmingham Reference Library, they have all sorts of stuff up on the 6th floor.

Thank you Tony. I already have that cert, and by an amazing coincidence the Sarah Oldfield I am looking for, and the lady on that cert are sisters-in-law. My Sarah was married to my Gt Granpa and the other Sarah was married to his brother William.

My Sarah was born Sarah Browning and her sister-in-law was born Sarah Griffiths, both in Birmingham England. Oh the joys of family history.
