Hi Starlight,

i wonder if your info can confirm if Elstree was in Hampshire in the mid 1800's?

I have Frances Adolphus Lawrence who wed Mary Ann Lewis 1844.

In 1881 census he is Master Mariner .

I'm pretty clear on the family, but cannot confirm his father -who could be James,but if i cant confirm where Elstree was, i'm stuck on confirming anything on his father.

I think it is in Hertfordshire. The nearest to that name in Hampshire in the mid 1800's is Earlstone.

Eliza Agnes LAWRENCE – Daughter – 7 - Bermondsey, Surrey

Sarah Ann LAWRENCE – Daughter – 3 - Bermondsey, Surrey

Erasmsus Nels LAWRENCE Jr (?) – Visitor brother – Marr - 43 - Sommerstown, Hampshire

Ellen MILLS – Servant - 14 - Harwich, Essex





The places of birth are a bit peculiar, because Elstree isn’t in Hampshire and Sommerstown doesn’t seem to exist!



I'll have a look for him in Herts then
