    Default Hart transcription

    Hart, Zalig

The 1881 census mentions a Talig Hart married to a Hannah surname unknown. I believe Talig to be my Zalig.

My gg/grandfather was married to a Hannah.

But my problem is I cannot find his grave and a get a transcription that is without paying money I cannot afford.

If there was someone living near Willesden...Please

ZALIG LIONEL HART….buried in our Willesden Cemetery on 17th July 1893 in Section E: Row HH: Number 7.

As housebound person whose family tree hobby is some what of a distraction from pain your efforts would be very much apprecated.

My best to you and yours, Ray [Australia]

Thank you so much. Some of the info I had but the others I did not so the skeleton has more flesh.

You asked who it was that I wanted to trace. The simple answer is my family. I want to take a gg/grand father back as far as I can. I know is future from his marriage in the Great Synogogue of London, 4 children Pauline, Charles, Joseph, Sarah, Migration on an Assisted Passage to Australia, more children, then settled and died in NZ as a retired shopkeeper.

His name was Benjamin Hart [quest. did he have a middle name]

So lets see what we know going in reverse,

Married Matilda Solomon daughter of Coleman Solomon.

His father was Zalig, who was most likely born 1813.

Zalig was a Fishmonger [wealthy enough to have servant]

Zaligs wife and mother of Benjamin seems to be Hannah.

She is on his wedding certificate.

    He was 68 by 1881.

    [Quest who is Esther Cohen]

We have their address , Hannah's age 50 by 1881.

So when and where they married? What was her maiden name? Did she have a occupation? Who was Zalig's father? Did Benjamin have siblings?

If any or of this type of info can be found then that would be great.

Of course I would like allof this information to comlete the picture for my self, But out of the blue I had an email from a young woman who told me she wanted to put together something for her grand father. She had come accross me on the net. A little detective work and it turns out her grand father is my uncle, a delightful man who recently lost his wife a gentle woman. This has has given me a greater urge to trace our family.

    My best wishes, Ray

Zalic (Zalig) Lionel Hart death registration September quarter 1893 Paddington Volume 1a Page 8 was not even 1 year old. Found his birth March quarter 1893 Paddington Vol. 1c Page 230. I suspect he may have been the son of Zalic born December quarter 1864.

The Zalig on the 1881 census aged 68 may have been Solomon Talig Hart death December 1881 aged 67 in Kensington Vol. 1a page 6

Hannah may have died March quarter 1885 in Mile End aged 55 Vol. 1c page 387

There were 2 marriages in that quarter in 1870. I suspect Hannah Myers married Zalig Hart and Esther Cohen married Jacob Moses. This was found on FreeBDM. Like you I don't have the money to pay for membership to other forums and have to rely on Free Searches. The marriage was September quarter 1870 which appears to be after son Zalic's birth in 1864 but I suspect this may have something to do with their faith and their marriage in the Synagog was not recognized at the time. They may have had to undergo a second marriage ceremony for it to be recognized. (Not at all sure of this.) As I have found another birth for a Zalig Hart in c 1850.

Do you know when Benjamin was born? Could he be the son of Zalic Jnr?

    Hi Kate,

The marriage may have been a bit too late for that to be the reason, and I do not have it as applying to Jews.

    The Marriage Act 1754

"This act stated that all weddings apart from those of Jews and Quakers had to be performed by a member of the Church of England clergy after the publication of Banns or by license. Any others were deemed void and their children often classed as illegitimate. Members of The Roman Catholic faith would often marry in both Churches. Any genealogist looking for Non Conformist Weddings between 1754 and when civil registration began in 1837 should first look in the parish records with Church of England Marriages".

Thanks for that Star. Wasn't sure if it applied to Jews or the dates it applied.

I have searched for a marriage from Sept 1837 through to 1880 and can only find the marriage of Zalig Hart and Hannah Myers. It is possible that Zalig was married to someone else previously, having been born c 1813 or they married after the children were born.

Marion June qtr 1875 Fulham. I presume this is Marion Pauline. Found a marriage for Marion P to Edgar J Josephson in 1894 in Newtown.

Charles Henry either Dec qtr 1877 in Kensington or September 1878 in either Marylebone, Poplar or Shoreditch.

Joseph Alexander March qtr 1880 Kensington

    Sarah December qtr 1882 Whitechapel.

Benjamin and Matilda married March quarter 1875 in London Central.

Benjamin (no middle name registered) June quarter 1852 Whitechapel.

Matilda probably born December quarter 1858 in Whitechapel. Census says she was 25 in 1881. The only birth I can find in 1856 Christian name unreadable but it is definately not Matilda.
