Thread: Vanished Ancestor

On 31st Jan 1859 at 10 Greycoat St, Westminster a Grt Grt Uncle of mine (Thomas Canty ) was born to Thomas Canty and Mary (nee Bennett).

He appears on the 1861 Census with them aged 2 years and his older brother John at 10 Greycoat St but on the 1871 Census the family are at 25 York St, Westminster but Thomas junior is missing. I`ve searched the death registers and looked through the 1871 to 1901 Census`s without a sign of him.



There was and old family tale that he was sent back to Ireland as I believe Thomas and Mary originated from there.

Any suggestions as to where to go now??

Hi Gillian,

Many Thanks for your reply to my problem. Although I haven`t ordered the D/C for Thomas Canty who died in Whitechapel in 1866 I don`t think he is my Thomas Canty.

My Family always lived in Westminster and later moved to Wandsworth.



The Thomas who died I think always lived in Whitechapel as I checked out the 1861 Census and he is there with his Family.



Anyway I will keep searching !

There is though another Thomas Canty death in Whitechapel age 11 Sep 1868
