Thread: Birth lookup please

Hello I have been trying to find my great grandfather John Farley (Farrely) born Swansea, Glamorgan about 1853. I have found him on the 1891 census after he married but cannot find any record of his birth.

Any help you could give would be gratefully received.

I thought this might be the marriage - March quarter 1882 Bradford Y 9b 256 John Farley to Elizabeth Longfield (or Mary Rock)

Thank you Gillian but I believe he married Elizabeth McConnell that is the name on my grandmother's birth certificate.

Thank you - Starlight let me know, also that you had thought John was born in Ireland until you found him on the 1891 census. I am posting the full details of the 1891 entry - I know you have them but it makes it easier for people to search.

So far I can't find a marriage or the family on 1901 or either parent on earlier censuses.

Can anybody else help please?

Thanks for taking a look. I think the answer might be in how the name was transcribed. I have tried Farley and Farrley. I then tried looking up the birth of Christopher but the nearest I can find is a Christopher Filey born Sept 1887. I could have missed him though.

Gillin, Thank you once again for your time and effort in trying to help in my quest to trace my Irish roots.

I did come up with the McConnell/Love connection and have their marriage certificate but her father is named as Alexander on it, was not quite sure if they were the correct family.There was a Margaret A and a Mary A (my grandmother) on the 1901 so I am still wondering exactly to which McConnell family they belong.

Haven't much time at the moment so will keep trying when I have some to spare.

OK - found the Alexander's family on 1881 - so the Love/McConnell is definitely not the right family.

Giving it a rest for the moment definitely sounds like the right decision!
