Thread: 1841 Census

Can some kind person help me with a lookup for the Osborne family. I have tried variants, with no joy.

John Osborne - head born Scarborough 1809

Hannah - wife - born Wykeham 1813

Ann - daughter born 1837 Leeds ??

Jane Alithea - daughter born 1839 Leeds ??

Unfortunately the 1841 doesn't show condition as to marriage

Hi Lance, This census record could be Hannah and Jane, what do you think? Remember, adult's ages in the 1841 were rounded down by up to 5 years.

I am not sure, it seems possible.

I could not find any births in Leeds for either daughter. Were they born in East Yorkshire.

I then find Jane Alithea Osborne marrying William Beedham Winder at St George's, Leeds in 1858.

Pick up the family again in the 1871 Census, living Low Road, Hunslet, Leeds.

No signs of any of them in the 1881 Census.

Any ideas.

The 1841 census only tells you if a person was born in the same county or not. Also if foreign or from Scotland, Ireland or Wales.



They were both born in Yorkshire but we don't know what part.

Well Lance according to the 1851 the children were born in Leeds.

If Ann Elizabeth was nearly 14 at the time of the census she could have been born before registration began in Sept 1837. (I think - my maths is not much good tonight)

Just need to find the Jane Alithea Winder and her family in the 1881 Census.
