Thread: Marriage help please

Hi could someone please help me , my mother and i have been researching our family tree for a couple of years , but we have always hit a brick wall in one area. We are looking for a marriage record for john sullivan and ellen chapman, john was born in 1863c in drury lane in london, and ellen was born in 1865 approx in kent. At one point a family member has john down as joseph , ??. In the 1891 census Ellen is down as lilian. their first daughter was born in 1890 in Lambeth, ( according to the 1901 census) her name was Katherine sullivan, she later married a biggs. john and ellen had 2 more daughters , one called elizabeth, the other called beatrice maud who died very young( she was 7 months old in 1901 census born in clare market and living in st clement danes, london.).In the 1891 census john is 28 , lilian (ellen) is 25 and daughter katherine is 1, they also had a visitor aged 6 years by the name of henry breewood. I am really stuck with this one, please could someone help me .

I have left a post before as i am really stuck on one area of my family, its a marriage that doesn't seem to exist at all, between a john sullivan and ellen (lilian ) chapman between approx 1880 and 1890 that is when her first daughter was born.



I have come across four names all on one page of the bmd ( 1d 1432) it consists of

john joseph sullivan

ellen rich

mary maria w chapman

william mathews



Its a long shot, but is it at all possible that these names have been put into the index wrong.

I haven't had any success in finding the marriage. Have you got any of the children's birth certificates?

I tried to find them in 1881 - there are hundreds of John Sulllivans but this one is about the right age & occupation - I know its not what you're asking for but it might be worth noting the entry - 14 New Buildings Southwark St Saviour Surrey

i have found a marriage for john sullivan and elizabeth chapman 4q 1873 shoreditch 1c 461,i thought she might have called her self ellen as a play on elizabeth.

and i found that couple in 1881

there living at 10 china walk lambeth

hope this is ok it was like looking for a needle in a haystack lol
