Thread: George John Garnett

George John Garnett married Sarah Scovell at St Mary's church Portsea 3/9/1865. George has his age at 27 years. Birthdate then should be abt 1838. Please could someone look up the parish registers for 1838 in Alverstoke, Gosport, Hampshire for George John's birth, and tell me his parents names, and any other details that may be available, siblings occupation of parents, address etc.



I would be most appreciative as I live overseas. thank you

yes I've trawled just about every web site available what I need is someone who has access to the actual records to take me any further. Otherwise my last option is the Mormon films or a trip back to UK.

I have access to the censuses. What I'm after is Amelia's husbands name, and any details of him. On the transcriptions of the childrens births 3 have father listed as George Garnett and against George John (Shown as George Genn) is shown as John Garnett. This is in Familysearch. Everything else ties in to them being a family and on the 1841 census it shows Amelia as a widow. So maybe George/John died about the time of the census as it's crossed out on that census sheet.



On George John's marriage certificate he lists his father a George - a Seaman.

There is a death for John Garnett Dec Qtr 1838 Vol V11 Page 89 Portsea Island, which is in Hampshire.

If you look at the National Archives website there is a reference (ADM/29/24/274) to George Garnett rating, born Gosport, age on entry 17, dates served 20 April 1824 - 30 September 1846
