Thread: Lookup plz Isaac Wimbles Stockton?

Hi,

Im stuck!



My Gt Gt grandfather Charles Wimbles was born in Middlesbro/Stockton on Tees (1831) and studying his marriage cert, his father was called Isaac Wimbles.



I have seen records that Isaac could have been born 1800 and records from 1841 census stating that he was 60 yrs, making yob 1781.



Any help out there please?

I have never been able to match these up to my own tree because things just do not seem to fit. For example Chales Wimbles(Middlesbrough) Married in Stockton to Elizabeth Robinson in 1854. Elizabeth was later widowed and lived at Mill Lane in Bowling with her mother Elizabeth Robinson. On the 1854 marriage cert, Charles was 23, making a DOB of 1831/32. whereas Charles Wimble(Saint John Ousebridge) was christened 16 Jan 1831, so possibly born in 1830, which would not tally with the marriage cert. Also Charles (Middlesbrough) matches up with her children on family search, so I cannot see an Ousebridge connection.



The children, Charles fits in just right, but again, I am a little sceptical about there being 34 years difference in siblings with Isaac being 59/60 when his last child was born.



I am sure that you can see the reason for NOT matching, but I am just a noobie at this and I suppose that you have seen all this before. Its just a pity that charles was not born a few years later in 1837, when I would have been able to find out for definate. I could do with a look at the parish records to make sure? what do you think?

You are right to be cautious but -

There is only one other Charles Whimbles on 1841 that I can see and his fathers name was George - there is only the one Isaac Whimbles.

If you are looking at the entry on familysearch giving Charles Wimbles who married Elizabeth Robinson as born in Middlesborough 'about 1832' I would discount this - these submitted entries are usually pure guesswork otherwise there would be full details.

I had taken it that Elizabeth Whimbles 35 on 1841 was wife not daughter. I think Isaac was married twice, the first marriage probably to Ann Boys 24 Feb 1804, St Mary Bishophill Junior. There is a burial record for Ann Whimbles age 45 - 23 Jan 1820 St Mary Bishophill Junior which would fit.

1861 Census says both Charles & Elizabeth were born Middlesborough but on 1871 & 1881 Elizabeth said to be born York so possibly not reliable.

Minor variations re age are incredibly common on BMDs and census - Charles age at death is consistent with birth 1830-1831

This certainly makes things interesting to say the least. I never thought of Eliz as being his wife, due to the age difference. I had come to a complete dead end and kept seeing these names and trying to find a link but couldn't.



When looking on the Family search site did you look for Whimbles rather than Wimbles or is this a typo? I am seeing 2 screens at the moment my eyes have gone bug-eyed lol. I think that I will give it another hour then leave it for the day I think, been at it for hours (got week off work )



I must thank you for all of the help that you have given me and will check back to report my findings

You are right of course - they appear as Wimbles on familysearch, Whimbles on 1841 & other variations elsewhere!
