I have just learned that my ancestor, Ephraim Fenn, remarried in 1848 in St Martin in the Fields, London. Could someone look him and his family up in the 1861 census, please? Many thanks in advance.

Hi Davidicus
I can't see him on 1861 but could this be him on 1851 ? no wife is shown but it does say he is married.

Lewis Franks is shown as son in law ????aged 4 ????
Thanks, bigdon. That's very helpful. On the list of his possible wives for 1848 I have an Emily Francke. Lewis Franks, 4, son in law?? Intriguing!
Hi
Sometimes the enumerator put "son in law" instead of Stepson![]()

Just to confuse us I think!!!
So it would seem that Lewis is in fact the son of Emily, Ephraims' wife![]()

Thanks, Loz. At the moment I'm puzzled by Lewis Franks. I am assuming (dangerous, I know) that his mother was Emily Francke who married Ephraim Fenn in 1848. I cant find any birth records in 1846/47 for Lewis but there is the death of a Louis Franke in Westminster in 1846. Perhaps his father. There are so many spelling variations for both names!
Ok. I think I've got it: Franckes, Lewis Henry born Uxbridge Jun 1846 (FreeBMD search). In the 1881 census he is referred to as Louis H. FRANCKE . He must have been born the year his father died and his widow married Ephraim.
