    Default Help needed with Hemmerman's

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone could help figure out which one is my direct ancestor.

My great-great grandfather is called William Hemmerman, born in 1866, Whitechapel, but all records I've seen show that two people with the same name was born in that location with the same name and birth year. Now my William married a lady called Elizabeth ??? from Barton Upon Humber and had the following children:

    William (b:1892, Grimsby)

    Clara (b: Dec 1897, Barton, d:Mar 1905)

    George Herbert (b:Jun 1898, Barton)

Ernest Mafekin (b:Jun 1900, Barton, also my great-grandfather)

    Horace (b: Mar 1902, Barton)

    Eddie (b:Mar 1904, Barton)

    Thomas F (b:Sep 1906, Barton, d:Sep 1913)

    Charles Pilsworth (Mar 1908, Barton)

So which possible William is my great-great grandfather?

Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated, thanks!

    Emma.

As far as i'm aware on the childrens birth info I've found her name was just Elizabeth, not even sure of her maiden name but It's possible they've just missed the first name out I suppose. I found tonnes of children born with the same surname in the same place that William was married, and non of them are directly related to mine, so I'm wondering if that's one of the two, but maybe not mine. I think it's gonna take me a while trying to find him lol!

Unfortunately I think your only way forward is to buy the marriage certificate to find the name of William's father.

I am sure the marriage Starlight found is the right one - on 1881 Mary Elizabeth Allison's details match those of Elizabeth Hemmerman on 1901

    1881 Lincolnshire Barton

    Joseph Allison 38 maltster

    Elizabeth 34

    John Edmumd Bell 14

    Mary Elizabeth Allison 12

    Joseph 9

    Henrietta 7

    Clara 5

    Florence 4

    Ada Alice 2

Hi there thanks for your help! I'm definatly getting the marriage certificate asap now! The entry youve found is certainly not my family, in the 1901 census my family show as being in barton, and William was a malster and also had to people living with them paying board, plus my great-grandfather was born 1900 called Ernest Mafekin and he doesnt show on your version, and as you can see it's a very unique name lmao! I know his DOB because of my grandmother, his daughter, and she's confirmed this for me.

Have found something interesting though last night, I came across a William Hammerman in the 1881 cenus who was a pauper and was at the Training Ship "Exmouth" at Grays, it says he was born in Whitechapel abt. 1867, now I've looked at birth records and know one was born in Whitechapel abt. 1866/7 with that name, apart from MY William and the other one, so I'm thinking this young boy is one of them, there's no record of his possible parents at all, including workhouses etc. so I'm thinking there either living on the streets or deceased. But all will come to light when I get there flipping marriage certificate lmao!

    P.S.

I've noticed so far that Hemmerman can be spelt Hemmorman and Hammerman, so fingers crossed it hasn't changed again lol!

Hey me again, just decided to flip through a few links I've been saving from months ago and came across My clara, from what I've found before I was led to believe she was born Dec 1897, but my link to familysearch.org shows a clara born Sep 23 Sep 1896, parents William and Mary Elizabeth Hemmerman, in barton. But there's no records of any other siblings...

    ...The plot thickens...

The details I posted were the 1881 census and Elizabeth's family not William's - it was just intended as confirmation that the marriage reference was the right one

These are the birth references for the children in case you haven't got them

    Clara Hemmerman Dec quarter 1896 Glanford B 7a 725

    George Herbert June quarter 1898 Glanford B 7a 725

    Ernest M June quarter 1900 Glanford B 7a 726

    Horace March quarter 1902 Glanford B 7a 690

    Eddie March quarter 1904 Glanford B 7a 701

    Thomas F September quarter 1906 Glanford B 7a 696

    Charles P March quarter 1908 Glanford B 7a 703

    and probably -

    June quarter 1892 Joseph James W Caistor 7a 631

    September quarter 1894 Arthur Caistor 7a 556

An Arthur Hammerman age 6 born Lincs Grimsby is a patient in Hull Royal Infirmary in 1901

Hey, I've contacted my gran and she doesn't know her grandmother's name, I also asked if she had her fathers birth certificate and she doesnt, so I'm maybe thinking of getting that first, and if it still doesnt help then get the marriage certificate of William and the mystery lady lol!

    Thanks for the help!
