    Default Bernard Taylor (born 1912)

    Hi everyone

I have registered her to try and help my father in law. He is trying to find out some more details about his birth father who died when he was 10ish. He was then adopted and has now decided he would like to know a bit more about his family tree.

He doesnt know much about the net and I am pretty clueless about how to start my search.

His name was bernard taylor and we believe his date of birth was 21st february 1912 (but we are not sure). We are trying to find out when he was born, when he died and about any family members he may have had to try and put together a family tree.

Any help would be much appreciated (or just some guidance on where to go which wont cost a fortune!!)

    Thanks for reading!!

    Emma

    Hi Emma,

There are several Bernard Taylor's on Free BMD, without some idea of where he may have been born it will be a struggle to decide which one is yours. Those born in 1912 onwards have the mother's maiden name alongside so maybe this will ring some bells for your father in law. If you google free bmd then put Bernard's name in and 1912 the list will appear.

    Good luck

    Maggie

    Hi Emma,

There are 8 Bernard taylor births reg on Free BMDMar quarter 1912 -6 of them have middle initials

Registrations in 1912 do give mother's maiden names -so that is a bonus.

Does your father in law have his original birth certificate-that would give his parents name and mother's maiden name and address of birth

Form that we can hopfully find a marriage for his parents -that marriage cert would give names and occupations of bride and grooms fathers and witnesses names (sometimes witnesses are members of the family.

If your father in law was legally adopted then he will have to apply for the certificate himself.

    Certificates cost £7

it is good to start with certificates, as it narrows the search and saves going down the wrong path -especially when researching a name which is not unusual.

You can look at the birth registrations I have quoted on FreeBMD -if Bernard was born in February his birth should be registered in march quarter.

Maybe your father in law knows some of these details or has his original birth certificate already.

Please post what information you have and from which records you have this information and we will see how we can help you further.

Correct information when you are beginning a tree is very important
