Hi,
I have information on Arnold Foster Goonan from his birth certificare. Arnold born 29th April 1899 In Fosterville County of Bendigo, shire of Huntley, Victoria. He was the second child of Edmond Goonan and Deborah Jane Rowley. They married on 17th February 1897 in Wickcliffe Victoria, Deborah Jane age is given as 33 and Edmond as 24 and profession a grocer.
Also have information on other members of the Goonan family we are willing to share with you. We don't have anything on the Else line though.
Noelene.
Hi Noelene,
I have that info thanks. Found your email last night regarding the Newman family and sent you a reply but must have pressed the wrong button as it disappeared.
I am the g granddaughter of Edmond and Deborah, granddaughter of Arnold Foster Goonan. Have Arnolds family going back to Michael and Catherine Goonan 1820.
Was really interested in finding the missing family of Edmond Goonan/Newman and Veronica Eileen McKenna.
Quite a mystery as to why he changed his name to Newman while still married to Deborah Jane, left his first family and then had a whole new family with Veronica.
Listed Deborah Jane as wife when he enlisted in 1916 but on page 14 he states he is single. Gosh if only we could talk to the dead, what a story we would hear.LOL
Would love to share whatever info you may have and if I can help at all would be only to happy.
Where abouts are you if if's ok to ask? I am in the S.W. of West Aust.
I have the names of 8 of the Newman/McKenna children. Which one is your husband descended from?
Cheers Gaye
Hi there Gaye, great to receive your reply. My husband Bill is a son of Edmond Patrick from Edmond Goonan's second family.
We have lots of info on both familiess. including some idea about the name change. Happy to share off line. I can also accept a private email on ancestyaid or if you would like to make direct contact.
Regards
Noelene.
Hi Noelene,
Just sent you a message on your profile page. Would love to make contact and share info so will send you a private message with my email address
Cheers Gaye.
Hi Gaye, I am the grand-daughter of Edmond Goonan/Newman's younger brother Patrick who was killed in France in 1917 during the First World War, and is buried there at Villers-Bretonneux.
I was very interested in your statement that you have traced Michael and Catherine back to 1820. Does this mean that you have traced them to their birthplace or birthplaces in Galway? If so I would be delighted to hear the details.
My research so far seems to indicate that they went first to Cape Town in South Africa in 1851 where they stayed until 1854, when they migrated to Australia. They settled in Bendigo where they remained until their deaths. They are both buried in the White Hills Cemetery in Bendigo.
As you may or may not know Edmond and Patrick were the children of Edmond and Margaret (nee Corcoran) and they had four sisters and two brothers.
Nice to make your acquaintance, cousin, and would like to share information with you.
Pauline

As you would have seen from the couple of postings my husband is a cousin and has found a little on the family. Was plesased to receive the info you sent to Gaye, info we had not found. So we are delighted with that. It has been a long slow process finding this line. Happy to share what we have and can leave a private message for you detailing our email addresses etc.
Regards Noelene
Dear Noelene,
I apologize for not including you in my first post but I was so pleased to discover someone else, namely Gaye, researching the family that I got a bit carried away, replied to her immediately and forgot about your post. Anyway, it is very nice to make your acquaintance also and I would be only too pleased to share information with you. Your idea of sending a private message with your email address sounds a good idea. Will wait to hear further from you. Pauline

Hi Pauline,
Great to hear from you. Haven't been on here for awhile and so only just now catching up. I have been emailing with Noelene as we are both doing the same research but from a different angle. Sorry I don't have their birthplaces exactly but Catherine's maiden name was Broderick, mothers maiden name Tuohy.
I didn't know that they went to South Africa before coming to Aust.
Will also send you my email address via private message so that we can stay in touch. With the three of us pooling our research we should be able to cover a bit more ground.
Cheers "cousin" Gaye.
