is there a bit for tips on finding living relatives on this site that anyone knows of

There isn't that I know of but some members have access to electoral rolls etc. If you have any information on the parents and siblings members may also be able to help with birth, marriages etc. I would suggest that you put up a post asking if anyone is willing to help, and to contact you via PM for the information you have.
