Default Horatio Street & Sackville Street

This is my first post and I have only recently started researching, so apologies if this isn't the right board etc.

I wonder if anyone has any information on two old addresses in Liverpool.

The first , something that looks like "13 in 2 court" Horatio Street is from the 1871 Census and has my Great great grandparents, Thomas and Bridget Lloyd, living there with their children. I am not sure if this no longer exissts. Google Maps puts it near Brunswick Street dock, but I have also seen other references to it being in the "Scotland Municipal Ward', which made me wonder whether it was instead a long-ago demolished address off Scotland Road?

Does anyone have any idea about the social conditions Horatio Street would have been in - I suspect not great if it is court housing at that time, but I might be wrong.

The second address, in the 1901 Census, has my great grandparents living in "21 Sackville St, Everton". I can't see any modern reference to this street or any Google maps hits in Everton, and I again wonder if this is an old address long ago demolished in the Bootle/Everton area, or was the name of the road changed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks,

    Peter Lloyd

    Hi Peter,

If you go to 'Links Hints and Tips' on the site forum you can click on 'search this forum' put Liverpool in the search box and a lot of links will come up. I had a look at 'Liverpool 1825 Streets and Alleyways' where Horatio Street is mentioned it may be of some help.

    hello Peter

I've only just found this site so you may already have this info.

Sackville Street is no longer around. It used to be in an area of Everton in between Netherfield Road North and Gt Homer Street. On present day maps, the area between Conway and Roscommon Street Hope it helps.

Many thanks for your reply and apologies for my delayed response - I have been travelling in Africa. I will be back in Liverpool in a couple of weeks and look forward to taking a look around this area!

I don't suppose you know if Sackville Street was bombed or just pulled down?

    Best wishes,

    peter

My Great Grandparents (John and Elizabeth Bingham), my Grandmother and my Mother all grew up in number 40 Sackville Street, right next door to the school. They moved in the late 1960's. St Peters Church was damaged by bombing, this was in the road. However the road was not bombed out. It was cleared around the time they moved.

My Grandmother is still with us and she still speaks fondly of growing up in the area. I will ask her if she knows anything of the people who lived in the house you mentioned.

    Cheers

    Mick

    Hi Mick,

Since this thread was posted, the site has changed and many members had to re-register under different names. Therefore, if the member still had the thread in their subscribed threads, they may not get any notification. That is, if the person has re-registered. I hope they have and you get a reply. If not you will know why. It is also possible that the person will look up the street on google and be re-directed to the thread. Good luck.
