Thread: 1881 & 1891 Census lookup please

Can some kind person locate Sophia Foster on these census. From the 1901 census where she is married to Raymond Furniss she is shown as being born in 1871 in Todmorden Lancashire. I think she was married around 1891/2 so hopefully she should (fingers crossed) be on the 1891.

Thanks for your reply. I've actualy got the 1901 and Sophia's Birth AS IT LOOKS made me also think she was a second marriage. Taking a close up look the enumarators mark actulay strikes through 30 not 20 which make her the mother of these children.

Since i first posted this request i've discovered that Sophias maiden name is FOSTER but still trying to find her in 1881. Her marriage to Raymond still illudes me though so if you could find them in 1891 i'd be very greatful.

It looks like a 2 to me also. If you look at all his number 3's there is no tail which there is on his number 2's. What do you think ?

If your right, and you very well may be, i'm back to square 1 as i can't find ANY marriage for Raymond and he could only have beem married from 1882 onwards which would mean 2 marriages in 10 years. Any thoughts?

Andrew I think this is Raymond in 1891, if so he could have been married before. He was born in Egremont Cheshire. Both Charlotte and 'Regmond' are recorded as married.

Hi Slizzy,

This is a very big possibility as my dad & uncle (Raymond's G/Grand children) have always insisted that there is a circus connection to the family. Also Willie is probably the William that is mentioned in subsequent census. Raymond is registered on other census as being born in New Brighton Cheshire so that is the only question mark i have on this.

I have gone through the images from 1891-1901 inclusive and there is no sign of him under either Furniss/Furness or Furnis

A possible birth for him if you haven't got it.

I have now gone back to 1885 with no result. I don't know how true it is, but my husband tends to think that a lot of circus people married at an early age but the marriage wasn't official. This makes the one Slizzy has found even more likely to be the same person as there isn't another marriage either. I don't know if anyone else will have any information about this theory.
