    Default Help hit a brickwall.

    I thought I was doing too well....Now I'm stuck

Can someone help me find the parents of Joseph Bourne,

Joseph was born in Circa 1873 in MacClesfield. I have Joseph on the 1881 Census with grandfather James and his daughter Jane.

    Thanks.

    Hi Slizzy.

Thankyou for your rapid response to my query.

I wasn't too sure about Jane being the mum of Joseph,

Oh well I knew there would be some skeletons in the cupboard.

Is Fred aged 5 Joseph's son?

Sorry slizzy I'm filling in all details into my gencircle and trying to figure out the smartmatches.

    Hiya Pauline,

The skeletons make family history more enthralling, don't you think? I love it when I uncover skeletons or mysteries in my ancestry - it makes the family seem more interesting and gives me more of a chase.

As for young Fred, it's not obvious whose child he is - on the original sheet the family is listed in age order, therefore he could be child of either Jane or Joseph. I can try to find Joseph's marriage, and his wife's subsequent death - there may be a clue there.

Matching possible spouse names to Bourne ladies who died in Macclesfield, within the time frame - here's what I've come up with.

    Marriages Macclesfield Jun-sept. 1894

Joseph Bourne to either Emma Elizabeth Bloxsome, or Sarah Jane/Ann Mellor (freebmd offer both options for the middle name)

    Deaths Macclesfield - Jul-Sept 1898

Sarah Ann Bourne - born c.1872

    Deaths Macclesfield - Apr-Jun 1896

    Emma Bourne - born c.1853

As the Emma who died 1896 was born 1853 and has no registered middle name Elizabeth, I would say you can discount her.

So it seems Sarah Ann is a strong possibility, this doesn't really help as she died 2 years after Fred was born, I had been hoping her death would have been soon after Fred's birth - which could have pointed to child birth being the cause of death.

Maybe you'll have to buy the certificate Pauine! Depend's how important it is for you to know Fred's parentage.

Hi slizzy, yes I love it when there's skeletons in the cupboard and as you say it's intriguing.

Bingo I got the same info as you as regards Joseph's spouse. I got a Sarah Ann Mellor and death 1898 from Cheshire BMD site. Quite confusing though when there are 2 Joseph Bournes who married within a couple of years of each other.

Yes I was thinking to of Joseph's wife cause of death could have been through childbirth. Pity we can't get access to medical records

    Thanks for your help slizzy.
