Default George HARWOOD/HORWOOD birth place needed please

After 13 years of research, I have still not managed to find my gg Grandfather's birth place so am hoping one of the members may have access to Parish records in Somerset county.

Family lore has him bn in Thorne Coffin nr Yeovil 1814/15 s/o James?

Earlier this year I finally found him in the 1841 Census. But it just says born in county of course.

    1841 England Census

Lower Odcombe, Odcombe, Somerset (1mile from East Chinnock where son James was bn, 1 mile from Brympton where they were married and 2 miles from Thorne Coffin)

SURNAME FIRST REL M/STAT AGE BIRTHPLACE Occupation

HARWOOD George Head Mar 27 Bn in County Agr Lab

Elizabeth Wife Mar 30 Bn in County

James Son 1 Bn in County

George married Elizabeth EASTMENT on the

    23 Jul 1839 (ref:10/717) at

    Brympton, nr Yeovil, SOM, ENG

On the passenger list when they emigrated to NZ in 1841 his age was 23 and Elizabeth was still 27, although this could either be a typo or he deliberately made his age lower.

    *London Barque: 388 Tons

Sailed Gravesend, London, 17th November 1841 - arrived Nelson, New Zealand 10th April 1842

Harwood George 23 Ag Labourer and Shoemaker

    Elizabeth 27

    James 1 died en route

    Thomas bn en route

If any one can point me in the right direction or shed some light on this mysterious gg grandad of mine I would be delighted.

    Many thanks

    Glen CURREY nee HARWOOD

    Hi Glen

George and Elizabeth were also my gg grandparents. Have also tried to find more info on them from UK and seems to be same as you have already. Have lots of info from time of their arrival in Nelson up to present generation if you wish, tho you probably have this already. My line comes from their son Henry Harwood. I was born in NZ (Collingwood) but my wife Sue and I moved to Aust in 1986.

    Cheers

    Hi Glen

Have you got the 1839 Marriage certificate which would hopefully name his father, and perhaps even witness names could help?

    Cheers

Hey, great to hear from you John. Are you Todds, Clem or Clarries line?

Would love to exchange data, as we can probably flesh out each other's trees.

    Cheers, Glen

Yes Annie, I have the MC. They were both residing at Alvington, SOM, where I think George was a farm labourer. George's father was James, a labourer, and Elizabeth's was Job, a weaver. The only witness of use was Hester Eastment, Eliz's sister.

Thanks for the advice though, as sometimes I forget to have another look at things............

    Cheers, Glen
