Hi, I am pretty new to this site, but I would like to share a story with you. I had known for five years that I had a brother and sister who my mum gave up for adoption. I found out by accident about my sister, but I have always known about my brother. Six years after my mum passed away I decided to trace my brother. I had come accross a date on a post mortem that I didn't know about so I went through the birth records for 1956, which is the year I found. I cam up with nothing until I started on the 1957 records. I found two names which could of been a possibility, but one I was certain of, it was my grandmothers middle name and the middle name of another sister of mine. I decided to send off to Southport GRO and asked if the details matched my mums, I wanted the certificate. A week or so later, I had my sisters birth certificate in my hands. I found the birth entry for my brother as I had his exact date of birth and knew his birth name. I went to After Adoption in Liverpool and told them what I knew. This was in June 06, by September 06, I was talking to my sister and then March 07 I found my brother. Yesterday was the first time I met my sister and the second time I had met my brother. So to people who want to trace adoptive relatives, do it. I know they don't all end up in happy endings, but as my sister said to me "thank you for plucking up the courage to get in touch, I know someone cares". Here is the link to the site, After Adoption is a very helpful and friendly place, so go for it. http://www.afteradoption.org.uk/
Thanx for reading, Lynn
