    Default godden/bloodworth in surrey

    G`day guys

i know i`m only new here and it might be a little rude to jump in with a request so early, but i need some help to convince my wife on the doability (is that even a word lol) of this.

her mother wont say anything about her family, neither of us have been able to find anything either.

as far as she knows, her grandparents (now deceased) were FREDRICK (possibly WG) GODDEN and WINIFRED (maybe) GLADYS BLOODWORTH of surrey, we believe fredrick was born in 1892 in croyden surrey.

if i am overstepping any boundries here please ignore this request

    cheers all

    troppo

Hi Troppo - please stop apologising! You have joined AA to find your ancestors so just go ahead!

This looks like the reference for Frederick's birth -

    2nd quarter 1891 Frederick William C Godden Croydon 2a 284

i`ve seen references like this a lot in here but i dont understand them, do they have something to do with the english census records?

    Hi Troppo

This is the reference you would need if you were ordering a certificate.

BMDs are organised in quarters for each year - Jan Feb Mar/April May June/July Aug Sept/Oct Nov Dec. The registration district is given next with the Volume Number for the district (ie Croydon 2a), the last number (284) is the page number.

I found this reference on FreeBMD - you might want to have a look at the site if you haven't already done so - the records aren't quite complete and only go up to 1920ish but is generally very useful (and free!)

This must be the marriage though Frederick has a different initial for his 2nd name -

    4th quarter 1923 Godstone 2a 503 Frederick E Godden to Winifred Bloodworth

i`ve been to the free bmd site a few times but i always seem to get the "you have to pay to see that" window, and that goes completely against my free tree challenge lol
